Bankruptcy
Being overwhelmed by debt can be devastating. It hurts more than your credit
- it can affect your health, your self-image and your personal relationships. Sometimes filing for protection under the bankruptcy laws is the best answer. We will help you analyze your financial situation to determine whether to file Chapter 7 or Chapter 13, or whether to file at all. And if Congress changes the laws, as it has promised to do, we'll be up to date on those changes.
Life Planning
Expecting the unexpected is never easy, and planning for it is even harder. Bumps and detours can occur on the road of life for "travelers" of all ages, but few of us have road maps for our loved ones to follow in case of our disability or incapacity. Our office can customize powers of attorney, medical directives and guardianship preferences for minor children to be used in case the need
arises.
Estate Planning
This covers the traditional area of what is known as "pre-mortem" planning. We will sit down with you and analyze your goals and objectives as they relate to how you want your wealth to transfer on your death. We will then work with you to devise a strategy to help you accomplish those goals. Sometimes this seems like a lot of trouble to reach what ends up being a basic solution, but often our clients find that what happens to their property if they die without proper planning isn't really what they wanted at all. We also see clients who have been convinced that they need too much planning for their circumstances, and we save them hundreds of dollars. Remember, it's frequently not the price of acting that is most expensive, it's the cost of inaction.
Medicaid / Long Term Care
Many older individuals will never need to go into a long-term care facility "nursing home") for an extended period of time. Some have sufficient assets or insurance to cover any anticipated stay. But often when the need arises it sends families into a "crisis mode", straining members financially and emotionally. The system that administers public benefits (Medicare and Medicaid) can be complex
with traps for the unwary. To make matters worse, there is a profusion of information on how to "protect assets" that ranges from unknowingly incomplete to downright self-servingly bad advice. Your best protection is to know all of your options before you make any moves. Money invested in objective advice and sound planning will yield dividends down the road, both in potential financial savings and peace of mind.
